Antarctic – Selftitled
Gisteren ben ik via via via via last.fm op de band “Antarctic” geboenkt! Hun debuut album dateert al van 2009 – maar het goede aan dit soort muziek is – dat wordt niet slecht, oftewel is/was het al slecht van in den beginne – of anders is het tijdloos… En bij Antarctic had ik direct een goed gevoel – dat moet klikken als het ware – dat moet vanaf de eerste noot direct bang-derop zijn… Gisterenavond dan ook nog eens toegegeven aan m’n *nieuwe* verzameldrang – LP’s… Dus eens gaan rondzien of dat de mannen van Antarctic geen LP hadden gemaakt & jawel! Bestelling gedaan bij Hello Sir Records & ze (heb gelijk nog wat anders besteld ook) worden asap geshipped… Ik ben in blijde verwachting.
You Slut! ~ Critical Meat
Vandaag last.fm nog eens gechecked of ze me nog iets nieuws hadden te bieden in de “recommended”-section… En toen viel m’n oog op “You Slut!”, een math-rock band uit Derby/Nottingham (UK). Math-rock is een subgenre van post-rock & I quote wikipedia;
Math rock shares its place of origin in the late 80s underground music scene of the American Midwest. Some earlier bands have characteristics of both math rock and post-rock, using instruments for textures rather than melodies and riffs, featuring atypical rhythms and some dissonance. The genres soon diverged: math rock concentrated on angular melodies, atypical time signatures, start-stop rhythms, and dissonance, while staying closer to rock music in sound and instrumentation. Post-rock, on the other hand, concentrated on heavy use of dynamics, creating soundscapes, and expanded the variety of instruments used, used a jazzier drumming style, and incorporated elements of shoegaze music.
Doet me enorm hard denken aan LITE – maar daarover meer de volgende keer – for now – give it a try & enjoy these mathemagicians from Derby…
De cd dateert ondertussen al van 2008, maar de mannen zijn nog actief aan’t touren. Ik kan ze alvast pruimen!
